WAGYU BEEF
In Japan, beef labeled as “Wagyu” can only be applied to improved Japanese breeds, specifically the Black Wagyu, Brown Wagyu, Japanese Shorthorn, and Polled Wagyu breeds and their crosses, provided they meet the conditions of being born and raised domestically. Therefore, even improved Japanese breeds imported from abroad are not recognized as Wagyu. While beef labeled as WAGYU is also circulating in countries like the United States and Australia, the true definition of Wagyu stipulates that it must be of the “Black Wagyu” breed and born and raised domestically within Japan.
